Bhagavad Gita Verse 2.47

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन |
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि || 47 ||1

“You have a right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions. Never consider yourself to be the cause of the results of your activities, nor be attached to inaction.”2

Commentary: The Supreme Power, Lord Shri Krishna advises not to get attached to the outcome of our duties. We must perform our duties with utmost sincerity and not worry about the result rather we should leave it to the Supreme Power. This characteristic also helps one to overcome the habit of expectation. Expectation takes birth in the mind which is unknown to the other person and hence if expectations remain unfulfilled it create grudges. It is by nature that the human mind starts expecting, even if it does, it is important that we do not get attached to it. So, it is imperative for us to perform duty without the attachment to result and expectation.

“The commentary is based on my personal experiences, learning, and opinion. I am a mere student in the journey of reading and learning verses from the scriptures. It is a process of unlearning and learning something new, research on it, and try to make it a part of my daily life. Any suggestions or comments are most welcome. Thank you.”
