Juicy Wisdom from a Jolly Hibiscus

The hibiscus plant is somber, and sadness seems to be imprinted on its very existence. I was sad for my little buddy but then my mother said,” Give it some time to adjust, you have just transferred it to a completely new place and environment, take good care and it will be fine in a few days.” With those words in my heart, I beamed with hope and happiness.

Later when I reflected on the words spoken by my mother, the truth dawned on me. What wisdom she imparted through such simple words. Isn’t it the case with every being?

Even we humans need time and affection to adapt to a new place. Some could do it quickly enough like my other plants while others are a little more sensitive and take their own time, just like my hibiscus. Life is the same for all, for all beings. When we understand this, we feel connected to each and every life on this planet. We may be different in genetic makeup but fundamentally we are the same.

“Learn to adjust yourself to the conditions you have to endure.
But make a point of trying to alter or correct conditions so that
they are favorable to you.”

William Frederick Book

These lines reflect the essence of life. We have to be flexible when faced with novelty and strong in case of adversity, but we have to ensure that the environment is also conducive for sustenance.

Had I not provided adequate water, sunlight, and good fertilizer, my hibiscus would not have sustained, but it can only when the environment is suitable for its growth.

Many a time, I have accepted a situation against my wish but that has rarely done any good hence I learn from my plants that a good environment and good care are what make life thrive.

  1. Thats wisdom right there. One of the things I struggle with is adjustment. I’m not known to be flexible. I known I should be but it’s hard and every situation is a battle still the fight is on~
