A sneak peek at what my free day looks like!

Free time is a luxury these days. And when I manage to snatch a few precious moments, I embark on an epic quest to accomplish my never-ending to-do list. Brace yourselves for the thrilling tale of my attempts at productivity!

The night before, I set the alarm for 5 am with excitement and hope. I am determined to embrace the cool morning breeze during a delightful walk. Trring trring trrring… Oh, the sweet melody of my alarm! But alas, my half-asleep brain convinces me that I deserve a bit more shut-eye. After all, I’ll be rising early for the entire week again from tomorrow. Besides, I will do some Yoga later so the morning walk can wait. With a triumphant press of the snooze button, I drift back into the dream world. Zzzzzzzzzz…

Fast forward to nearly 8 o’clock, and I awaken feeling as fresh as a daisy. Naturally, the idea of snuggling back into my warm bed tempts me. But alas, I know all too well that such a decision would be rewarded with a terrible headache.

On busy days, we usually crave some ‘me’ time, sleep time, and ‘we’ time with family and friends. On weekends, I prefer a slow and peaceful start to my morning. I love to tend to my plants while feeling the morning breeze. In the meantime, the masala chai on the stove brews and fills the home with its refreshing aroma. I and my husband sip the heavenly chai on the balcony among my plants and a few chirping guests (if I am lucky!). It gives a kick-start to my morning. Every day the morning ritual stays the same but somehow these activities on a day off are carried out with a sense of ease which makes me appreciate it all the more.

I am a bibliophile who orders a bunch of books in advance even though I have not even reached midway through my current book. So, I devote maximum time to reading books on weekends so that the books on the shelf collecting dust can be rescued soon.  After a scrumptious breakfast, it’s finally time for “Me and My Book” quality time. The world fades away as I immerse myself in captivating stories, fantastical worlds, and life-changing wisdom.

But wait, there’s more! What’s a luxurious day off without a bit of self-pampering? Now here comes the most awaited moment when I embark on a journey to rejuvenate my mind, body, and soul. After a frantic week, little pampering feels well-deserved. I whip up a homemade facial paste and to set the mood, I light up some enchanting aroma candles, dim the lights, and put on soothing music. My husband gets the wrong idea, envisioning a romantic evening ahead until he spots the bowl of haldi and besan paste (turmeric and gram flour) kept beside the candles.

All these activities take care of my ‘me time’ so now comes the ‘we time’. Everybody is caught in the trap of the fast-paced world and hardly has time for each other. So mostly on weekends, I prepare a nice simple home-cooked meal and invite our friends over for dinner. A warm dinner and a heartful conversation end the day perfectly!

With dinner conquered and our hearts full, my husband and I settle down to enjoy a gripping series together. It’s the perfect end to a day filled with laughter, love, and self-care. As the credits roll, we bid adieu to wakeful consciousness and surrender to the sweet embrace of early sleep. For tomorrow, we shall rise anew, ready to conquer the world.
