Welcome, December: A Month That Feels Like a Warm Hug

December brings a soft chill to the air, one that wraps the world in a quiet stillness. I have never been a big fan of winters, I feel too cold and look like an Eskimo, but still, there’s something about this month that gently warms my heart. Maybe it’s the way the temperature drops just enough to make blankets feel like a cosy cocoon. Or the comfort of a steaming cup of hot chocolate. Or simply the pleasure of curling up with a book while the world outside slows down. December may be cold, but it has its own way of brightening my spirits.

And then there’s the best part—it’s my birthday month. Nestled right between Christmas and New Year, the 26th often feels like a festive season. By then, the world is already glowing in red and green, wrapped in lights, laughter, Christmas carols, and celebrations. And as soon as Christmas bows out, the countdown to a brand new year begins. It’s funny how turning a page on the calendar can feel like a fresh start, even though it’s technically just a change of date. But December has always carried that magic; the magic of hope, love, and new beginnings.

When I was a child, December meant pure excitement. I would wait for it almost the way one waits for a favourite festival. Christmas cartoons, holiday specials, plum cakes, endless reruns of Home Alone—they shaped my imagination. Those films planted a dream in my little heart: to someday visit a foreign land and witness Christmas in all its grandeur. Maybe Paris with its sparkling lights, or Finland dressed in snow—somewhere magical where the season feels like a fairytale. That dream still lives on my bucket list. Someday, I hope to celebrate my birthday and Christmas in a snowy wonderland, surrounded by festive lights and the unmistakable spirit of the season.

Even now, I can’t imagine December without Christmas movies. They’re my absolute favourite comfort-watch. I actually start watching them as early as November—it’s my little reminder that the special month is on its way. This year, I’ve already devoured four of them, and honestly, I’m just warming up. The familiar tropes, the predictable endings, the snow, the music, the cheesy love stories… everything about them fills me with this warm, sparkly joy. They make my heart feel lighter, loved, and completely soaked in the festive spirit.

But December is not just about celebrations. Once it passes, it gently ushers in a new year—bringing with it new hopes, new dreams, new responsibilities, and fresh accountability. That’s why I find December incredibly warm and accommodating despite its chill. December is a month that gives me a moment to pause and reflect on the year gone by—the wins, the lessons, the little joys that stitched my months together. And at the same time, it offers a clean slate to plan, dream, and begin again.

I don’t usually make resolutions or plan big for the new year. I have always been the “go with the flow” kind of person. But last year, something shifted in me.

During the Blogchatter Wrap Party, we had to write three creative and personal goals. And for the first time, I actually sat down and thought deeply about what I truly wanted—especially in my creative life. And I was finally able to pinpoint three areas in my writing and my blog where I wanted to experiment and try something new.

Surprisingly, 2025 has been kind to me… almost as if the universe responded to that clarity. I saw real progress, real results. And that’s when I understood the importance of setting goals—not the pressure-filled kind, but the kind that gently guide your energy in the right direction. For that, I genuinely thank Blogchatter. It gave me that little push I didn’t know I needed.

So this December, I’m looking forward to embracing new changes, tying up loose ends, finishing the things I left halfway, and dreaming new dreams with a little more intention than before.

That’s my December—festive, hopeful, nostalgic, and deeply reflective. A month that offers both celebration and quiet contemplation under the warmth of a soft blanket.
